I don't play any real instruments to speak of, but I have always had a lot of music bouncing around in my head.
One day in the mid 1990s, a friend showed me how to lay down tracks using Fast Tracker 2, an Amiga-style Module tracking program (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FastTracker_2) and I finally had and outlet for music composition without the need formal training or expensive equipment. I essentially typed out each of these songs note-by-note!
The tunes ranged from electronic versions of songs from the groups in which I performed (Chrysler-Stewart and the Stewartesses and Chris Riffle) to covers of songs I liked, to completely original works.
Typically I would start a song and work on it until my lack of training frustrated me, and I would mothball the file, sometimes for years. This can sometimes be heard where I have forgotten what I was originally trying to accomplish and the song is wrapped up as best as possible.
So here is my oeuvre as a Module Tracker. I have gotten as much as I want to get out of this format but I would still like to find a contemporary answer to this technology.
